A Shift in Calling

My path to healthcare leadership wasn’t one I initially imagined. As a child, I felt called to become a pastor—drawn to serving others through faith. But in college, that call began to evolve. I studied psychology, inspired by my father, a physician, and my mother, a teacher. Though I didn’t feel led to preach, I knew I was meant to walk alongside people in need—helping them navigate life’s challenges and rediscover hope.

Leading Systems, Not Just Individuals

That desire to serve eventually widened. I realized I was called not only to support individuals, but also to help shape the systems that care for them. I pursued a Master of Public Health in leadership and management and completed a practicum with a large Catholic health system. There, working alongside the senior vice president of mission integration, I saw firsthand the impact of faith-informed, values-driven leadership.

From the Front Lines to the Classroom

That experience led me into senior living, where I became a licensed nursing home administrator and later the CEO of a large non-profit continuing care retirement community. My focus was culture change—moving from institutional models to ones that honored autonomy, dignity, and personhood.

Later, I earned a doctorate in health administration and transitioned to academia, where I now teach and mentor emerging leaders in healthcare. My work today spans the classroom, boardroom, and the written page.

What I’m Working On Now

I’m currently writing two books:

  • The Next Healthcare Leader, a leadership and career guide for students and early-career healthcare professionals

  • The Christian Healthcare Leader, which explores the integration of faith and leadership in care-driven environments

Both draw deeply from my experience in executive leadership, higher education, and values-based care.

Why I Do This Work

At the heart of everything I do is a simple belief: leadership is a calling. It demands more than technical expertise—it requires purpose, compassion, and moral clarity. Through teaching, writing, and coaching, I aim to equip leaders to lead with vision—and to serve with heart.
